At Marais des Cygnes Valley, Trojan Pride means more than wearing our school colors, cheering for our teams, or celebrating victories. It means coming together as a school family and supporting one another when it matters most.
That spirit was on full display during MdCV's recent Pink Out Night, as our junior high volleyball players, families, and community members joined together to raise awareness and support local families facing difficult circumstances.
In recognition of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, MdCV Junior High organized a special Pink Out T-shirt fundraiser. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who purchased a shirt, $500 was raised, with $5 from each shirt going directly toward helping two local families.
Each family will receive a $250 donation.
A Special Moment of Recognition
During the evening, MdCV student Madalynn (Mady) Todd addressed those in attendance, thanking the community for supporting the fundraiser and explaining the importance of helping families during challenging times.
One of the families recognized was Christine O'Rear and her family, who recently experienced the heartbreaking loss of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
The O'Rear family was presented with $250 to help with expenses during this difficult time.
A second local family will also receive $250 but has requested privacy. MdCV respects their wishes while extending the same heartfelt support and encouragement.
As Mady reminded everyone during her remarks:
"Your kindness and support mean so much to our community, and together, we can make a difference for families who need it most."
Two Schools, One Community Spirit
One of the special parts of the evening was seeing the junior high volleyball players from Marais des Cygnes Valley and Burlingame come together in support of a cause much bigger than volleyball.
While the two schools may be competitors on the court, moments like these remind us that some things are far more important than the final score.
Seeing our student-athletes standing together in pink was a reminder that compassion, kindness, and supporting others are values that extend beyond school boundaries.
Teaching Lessons That Last a Lifetime
At MdCV, we believe education is about more than academics. It is also about helping students become caring, responsible individuals who understand the importance of giving back to their communities.
Fundraisers like Pink Out Night provide opportunities for students to see firsthand how even small acts of generosity can make a meaningful difference in someone's life.
A $5 contribution from each shirt might not seem like much by itself, but when an entire school community comes together, those contributions add up to something special.
We are proud of our junior high students for participating in this effort and grateful to everyone who helped make the fundraiser possible.
A special thank-you goes to everyone who purchased a shirt, wore pink, organized the event, and supported our student-athletes.
Cancer and the loss of loved ones affect far too many families. While we cannot take away the challenges they face, we can remind them that they are surrounded by people who care.
Pink Out Night was about more than volleyball. It was about compassion, generosity, and showing what it truly means to be part of the MdCV family.
Once a Trojan, Always a Trojan! 🧡💙💗
