Apply Kansas

Six Marais des Cygnes Valley seniors took an important step toward life after high school Tuesday, October 6, as they traveled to Emporia State University to participate in Apply FREE Kansas.

The annual Kansas Apply Free Days initiative gives Kansas residents an opportunity to submit undergraduate admission applications to participating colleges and universities without paying an application fee. This year, the program was expanded from three days to five, running October 5–9. Students can apply to Kansas public universities, community colleges, technical colleges, and participating independent colleges during the statewide event.

While at Emporia State, the MdCV seniors had an opportunity to work on college applications and begin the process of creating their FAFSA accounts. The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is an important step for seniors as they begin exploring financial aid opportunities for college and career training.

Participating seniors were LaRonn Jackson, Landon Reed, Joshua Ulupano, August “Gus” Ford, Madyson “Mady” Rose, and Aubrey Vogeler.

Opportunities like Apply FREE Kansas give our students dedicated time and support to explore what comes next, whether that path leads to a university, community college, technical program, or another postsecondary opportunity. More importantly, it helps remove some of the barriers that can stand between students and taking that first step.

We appreciate MdCV Counselor Lisa Reeser for organizing the trip and helping our seniors navigate the application and financial-aid process. Preparing students for what comes after graduation is an important part of our work at MdCV, and we are excited to see where these Trojans go next.
