On April 29, 2026, several MdCV students had the opportunity to visit Pittsburg State University and learn more about campus life, college opportunities, and what it means to be part of Gorilla Nation.
Pictured from left to right are Kaylynn Todd, Jordyn Duncan, Emily Criqui, Bella Reeser, Gus the Gorilla, and Gus Ford.
During the visit, students were able to experience the Pitt State campus atmosphere and spend time at a university known for its strong traditions, academic programs, and school pride. Pittsburg State encourages students to explore its facilities, academic programs, and campus culture through campus visits and admission events.
Of course, no trip to Pitt State would be complete without a picture with Gus the Gorilla. Pitt State has a unique mascot tradition, and the university is proud to be the only college in the nation with the Gorilla as the official mascot for both men’s and women’s teams. The gorilla tradition dates back to 1920, when students formed a pep club to build school spirit on campus.
Opportunities like this are important for our students. Campus visits help students begin to picture themselves after high school, ask questions, explore future options, and better understand the steps that lead to college and career success.
MdCV is proud of our students for taking advantage of this opportunity to learn, explore, and think about their futures. We appreciate Pittsburg State University for welcoming our students and helping provide a meaningful experience.
Great job representing MdCV, Trojans!
