Today, the Board of Directors for the Kansas State High School Activities Association held a special meeting to determine additions and revisions to regulations for the winter sports season. The new developments as it pertains to MDCV JH/HS basketball is as follows: -No practices December 23 - January 3 -No competitions December 23 - January 7 -No spectators December 1 - January 28 Currently, with games postponed due to the temporary move to remote learning, and with the limited turnaround time for our athletes to prepare for competition, MDCV is not competing in any games before winter break. New dates of rescheduled games will be posted as soon as possible. We will do everything we can to make sure our students have an opportunity to compete this season.

In consultation with OCHD, due to their interaction with others occurring at school while masked, there are not any other resulting home quarantines amongst staff or students. However, given the close nature of the student interaction and the ability to cohort, the district is instituting a "cohort schedule" for 3rd grade students. Parents of those students are to be contacted today by school staff and we will discuss the specifics of the schedule with parents directly. This does not affect any other grade level in the district. USD 456 continues to encourage students, parents, and staff to stay vigilant about their health, stay home when symptomatic, mask up when in public, and maintain appropriate hygiene during the course of the day. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

NOTIFICATION: To address mounting concerns in conducting winter sports during a pandemic and considering recommendations from KDHE, KSDE, KSHSAA, and the Osage County Health Department, the Lyon County League superintendents met and drafted a revision to its' league guidance document. This revision restricts spectators at winter sports events to four guests per home team participant and two guests per visiting team participant. While restrictions may be more restrictive at schools according to local mandates, each league school will meet this agreed upon maximum amount. At MDCV, tickets will be distributed to participants at least 24 hours in advance. While tickets will be required for spectators to gain entrance, home passes or league passes will still be honored as a form of payment for gate fees. Today, September 30th, 2020, marks the last day of service for Dale Dennis, Deputy Commissioner for the Kansas Department of Education. Mr. Dennis is retiring after a long and distinguished education career within the state of Kansas. He began his career in 1959 as a classroom teacher, became a school administrator in 1965, and then began his tenure overseeing education finance at KSDE in 1967. Since then, he has dutifully served the state of Kansas, its' students, parents, and staff members for 53 years, supervising the administration of $5 billion in state and federal funds annually. In this role, with the appropriate administration of funding, he has continuously advocated for an effective, equitable, and beneficial education system that can impact all students, whether urban, suburban or rural. It is difficult to fully convey or encompass the impact Mr. Dennis has had on the state of Kansas and its' education system, but if you or your student has learned ABCs in a kindergartener, developed Algebra skills as a 8th grader, or mastered welds as a senior, all within Kansas classrooms, then Dale Dennis has had an impact upon you. As declared by the Governor, today marks Dale Dennis Day within the state of Kansas and USD 456 - Marais des Cygnes Valley is proud to celebrate a man who has done so much for its' community. Dale Dennis is once in a generation leader and we are incredibly grateful for his service. Enjoy retirement Mr. Dennis, you have earned it.

We like happy news, so the Tireless Teacher Award was created to celebrate our staff. It is a rotating award, passed between buildings by the previous recipient. Sure, it is a bit of a “white elephant” award - a dusty old tire, but it sure draws attention, an opportunity to have a good laugh, but also provide positive recognition for our folks as they work hard for their students. This month’s recipient is Kindergarten Teacher, Missy Criqui! Thank you for your hard work! Congrats!
Please contact Judy Lacey if you would like to sign up. email@example.com Please sign up before September 18th. Our shirt order will be put in at that time!!! Shirt availability after that date will not be guaranteed.
