Student Council makes end-of-semester plans
Canned food collection extended until Wednesday, Dec. 19
December 12, 2007
Student Council and the Yearbook staff will partner together to provide a taco supper on Friday, Dec. 14, during the basketball game against Burlingame. At a December 7 meeting, StuCo sponsor Missi Kewley asked student council and yearbook members to sign up to work the supper and to bring a dessert.
Student Council's share of the proceeds will help defray costs to attend a dinner theater, which typically costs around $900. In addition, members will be expected to pay around $15, or about half the cost of a dinner theatre ticket, so as not to totally deplete funds in the Student Council account. Their primary means of fund-raising are the bottled drink dispenser machines, located in the commons.
Student Council is also sponsoring the collection of canned
goods for distribution to needy families during the holiday season.
A competition among high school classes -- freshmen, sophomore,
junior, and senior -- will determine who will receive a culinary
prize of Christmas cookies at the end of the contest. Kewley said
she will ask StuCo members to help with boxing up the donations.
Local pastors will be notified and asked to pick up boxes and
distribute as needed. The class competition ends Wednesday,
December 19.
Student Council had plans to sponsor a winter formal dance on
Saturday, December 15. That event has been canceled or postponed at
this time. A new date will be announced as soon as arrangements are
made with the D.J.
Kewley also announced implementation of a point system, to determine who may be considered "active" members of StuCo. Just showing up to meetings does not constitute an active measure of participation. The school's FBLA organization utilizes a similar means of officially recognizing and rewarding its members.
