Meet Peggy Burkdoll
By Peggy Burkdoll
My name is Peggy (Mahar) Burkdoll. I was born in Eureka, Kansas. I was one of the lucky children in my class as I went to Kindergarten while living in Eureka. In June of 1964, my family moved to Waverly, Kansas where I continued my education and graduated from Waverly High School. I attended Emporia State University and received my Bachelor of Education degree in December of 1980.
While in college, I married my high school sweetheart, Dave Burkdoll. We have three sons, Jeff, Aaron, and Daniel. Jeff and Stacy live in Wamego, Aaron, Jenn, Sean, and Daysha live in Topeka, and Dan and his girlfriend, Erin, live in Waverly.
After graduating from college, I substitute taught for 2 1/2 years. In August of 1983, I began teaching Kindergarten in the Marais des Cygnes Valley school district. I taught Kindergarten for
10 years, 3rd grade for 7 years, 2nd grade for 7 years, and am currently teaching 4th grade.
After the boys all left home, I began working part time at Beto Junction Travel Plaza as a cashier. I work several evenings and at least one day over the weekend. I also enjoy keeping the clock at the home volleyball and basketball games and helping with track meets. When I am not busy at school, I love to go shopping with my sisters and spending time with my family! My husband and I LOVE being grandpa and grandma!!!!
