While starting the season 0-5, the MdCV Junior High football team never gave up hope and managed to pull out two wins in the final games of the season, to push their record to 2-7. In doing this, they became one of the most successful junior high teams over the past decade.
“We had a pretty good season with just two wins, since that’s more than we’ve had in the last couple years,” said head coach Jeremy Lingenfelter.
The young Trojans had a total of 15 players on the team. Nine of those players are eighth graders: Christian Cannon, Brock Criss, Mike Smith, Matt Maxhimer, Michael Penland, Cody Patterson, Treavor Syens, and Kenneth Freeman. The remainder are seventh graders who will be returning for next year: Cody Nettleton, Hatch Lott, Isaac Detwiler, Curtis Sowers, Dakota Hartley, and Leon Sluder.
Reflecting about the season, Lingenfelter said, “The best part about the team would have been the offense, because they’ve scored more points than in previous seasons. He noted, “The most improved players would have been Kenny Freeman and Treavor Syens.” These two were both offensive linemen.
Coach Lingenfelter added, “My biggest regret was that we should of beaten Lebo.” The Trojans lost this game 8-0, which could have changed the season.
