High School Scholars' Bowl teams end seasonal competition

Scholars' Bowl Teams
The Marais des Cygnes Valley Scholars' Bowl team participated in the Lyon County League meet Wednesday, January 18, at Waverly High School. Teams from across the league came together in a competition of wit and intelligence.
Both varsity and junior varsity played well, but in the end,
the JV did not make it to the finals, and the varsity succeeded in placing second overall.
The MdCV varsity team members were Abby Phillips, Derek Wilson, Tucker Nance, Daniel Heslop, Mitch Saffle, and Logan Cox. The junior varsity team members were Caleb Dickey, Taylor Ratcliff, Brian Ratcliff, Chris Sowers, Julie Heslop, and Samantha Volkman. Mrs. Deb Stukey was the teams' coach.
Regional meet
The Marais des Cygnes Valley Varsity Scholars' Bowl team participated in the regional meet Wednesday, February 2, at Herington Middle School. The competition was split into two main pools: Pool A and Pool B. Winning 5 out of 7 rounds, MdCV earned second place in Pool A.
Once into the finals, competition became more stiff. MdCV managed to win 1 out of 5 rounds, beating only Lebo. In the end, MdCV managed to place sixth out of 15.
To qualify for the state tournament, a team had to finish in first, second, or third place.
Other schools who participated in the regional meet included: Herington, Burlingame, Lebo, Lyndon, Olpe, Onaga, Sedan, Solomon, Washington County, West Elk from Howard; Burns High School from Peabody; Northern Heights at Allen; Wabaunsee High School at Alma; and Mission Valley at Eskridge.
