Children's Literature Festival 2010
Children's Literature Festival 2010On Sunday, March 14, Julie Heslop, Chevelle Balcacer, Anessa Boeck, and Bailey Houston accompanied Mrs. Garard to the Children's Literature Festival at Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, Missouri. After viewing some of the books, the students each purchased books. There were approximately forty authors and/or illustrators at the festival. The children had their book signed by the author. The children visited with many of the authors who signed the autograph notebooks that they brought with them. The children enjoyed tossing coins in the fountain located in the Student Union.
Five of the authors gave presentation to the students on Monday, March 15. Marie Smith, and Suzanne Williams spoke to the students about how they got started writing. After eating a sack lunch, the students attended slide show presentations by authors Patricia Hermes, Eileen Christelow, and Alexandria Lafaye. Many of the authors encouraged the students to read books as one method of become a writer. Most of the authors explained how they had to do research even when writing a fiction book to correctly portray the characters, setting, etc.
