MdCV 2010 Spelling Bee

The Marais des Cygnes Valley Spelling Bee was held Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Quenemo. Twenty spellers in grades fourth through eighth earned the right to participate in the contest by placing among the top four in their respective classes. Champion,Samantha Volkman (7th grade) and Runner Up, Tucker Nance (8th grade) will represent MdCV at the Osage County Bee on February 10 at Carbondale at 9:30 a.m. 
Samantha, Tucker and Kayla Hempel (5th grade) were the only remaining contestants after round 4.  Tucker and Kayla stumbled on “quadruple” and “marsupial” repectively. Samantha clinched the MdCV championship after correctly spelling the word “thermostat,” followed by “expiration” in round 5. Tucker correctly spelled “dominate, followed by ”elementary” for second place.

Students participating in the MdCV Spelling Bee were:

Fourth Grade: Mayden Balcacer, Bailey Houston, Tristen Patterson, April Stewart-Neill; alternate Dominik Crowell

Fifth Grade: Skylar Carver, Jasmine Daniels, Dakota Hartley, Kayla Hempel; alternate Valoree Lynn

Sixth Grade: Christian Engelbert, Korey Hempel, Cody Patterson, Dalton Reece; alternate Alexa Cox

Seventh Grade: Rebecca Brannan, Brianna Detwiler, Mitch Saffle, Samantha Volkman; alternate Josh Sowers

Eighth Grade: Andi Bush, Jennifer Flewelling, Adrienne Graika, Tucker Nance; alternate Dakota Lee
