MdCV FFA Celebrates Year with Banquet

2009 MdCV FFA Chapter BanquetOn Wednesday, April 15
the Marais des Cygnes Valley FFA Chapter held its annual banquet.
The evening began with the invocation by MdCV FFA President Brandon
Litch followed by a meal with smoked pork sandwiches and baked
beans from Santa Fe Trail Meats and pot-luck sides and desserts.
Keynote speaker and Kansas FFA Treasurer, Annarose Hart delivered a
positive message about investing an interest in others as well as
yourself in order to achieve success.
Greenhand and Chapter Degrees were recognized by the Chapter
Officers. Greenhand members receiving their degree were: Kylie
Vanderpool, Matt Boggs, Stormie Bush, Natasha McCurdy, Cody Cox,
Lukis Janssen, Dakota Meiers, David Rager, Jancie Taylor, Jeremey
Turner, Derek Wilson and Gabe Bailey. The Chapter Star Greenhand
Award was given to Derek Wilson for his participation and
achievement during the year. Chapter Degrees were also awarded to
second year members. Members receiving this degree were: Jeff
Engelken, Emily Phelon, Jaime Spencer, Josh Flewelling, Venae
Wagner, Skyler Wainwright, and Becca Bush.
FFA members that have excelled in their Supervised Agriculture
Experience Programs were awarded proficiency awards. The following
members receiving awards were:
Michael McGrew, Ag Service; Chad Forrer, Beef Production; Brandon
Litch, Diversified Ag Production; Alan Billen, Equine Science; Jake
Lichtenauer, Forest Management; and Jamie Rice, Sheep Production.
The award given to the premier SAE program was Brandon Litch
receiving the Chapter Star Farmer award.
Sweepstakes Awards were given to those students with the most
participation and success in activities during the course of the
year. Members receiving recognition were:
Brandon Litch, first; Jamie Rice, second, and Derek Wilson,
third.
Senior members were also recognized for their membership in the
FFA. Members active the four years in the FFA were: Alan Billen,
Vicki Coffey, Jamie Fine, Chad Forrer, Brandon Litch, Pat Rager,
Michael McGrew and Michael Schmidt.
The MdCV FFA Chapter also recognizes the members of the school or
community that have gone above and beyond supporting the FFA
Chapter. This year’s recipient of the Blue and Gold award was
Dianna Rager. Dianna has helped the chapter coordinate the annual
Haunted Halloween for the past two years in which the chapter
showed their appreciation with a plaque to Dianna for her hard work
and support to the chapter and community. The final recognition
honored was awarding the Honorary Chapter Member Award to Mr. Ted
Vannocker. Mr. Vannocker will be retiring this year and the chapter
wanted to show their appreciation for all of the support and
commitment he has given to the FFA Chapter, the school, and
community.
The evening ended with the announcement of the 2009-2010 chapter
officers by retiring president Brandon Litch. The new officers for
next year will be: Jamie Rice, president; Emily Rose,
Vice-President; Emily Phelon, Secretary; Jaime Spencer, Treasurer;
Derek Wilson, Reporter; Matt Boggs, Sentinel; and Jeremy Turner,
Student Council Representative.
The MdCV FFA would like to say thank you to the following for
supporting our chapter and investing in our members that we can
prepare them for career and life long success: USD 456 School Board
members, Mr. Vannocker, Mr. Burkdoll, Mr. Thurston, Merrilyn
Volkman, Carrie Dyke, Angie Volkman, all Faculty and Staff, Bob
Harred, Marie Burnett, Dale McCurdy, James and Pam Bowen (Haunted
House Hosts), Terry Rice, Advisory Council members: Scott Rice,
Jeff and Joyce Casten, and Caleb and Janae McNally, and area
community businesses and organization for their support to our FFA
Chapter.
