On Friday, January 30th, 2009, Native American Dennis Lee Rogers came to Marais des Cygnes Valley Elementary School in Quenemo, Kansas. It was the day after Kansas Day and Mr. Rogers come to demonstrate how Native Americans dressed and danced. He did several dances and sang songs that he wrote himself or were traditional Navajo songs. Mr. Rogers told some inspirational stories about his childhood and other events in his life. He also sang and spoke in Navajo, his Native American language. Since Kansas Day is very important to Kansas and has been for 148 years, Dennis Lee Rogers was a joy to our school. Everyone learned a lot from his presentation.
