This book is about a young man, Christopher McCandless. Chris seemed like a normal, middle class person: He had great parents, lived in a nice house in Washington D.C., had a dog, graduated from college, but this life was not for him. He wanted to live off the land in Alaska and not have any help from anyone. He would just rather be left alone.
He started this journey without any of his family or friends knowing. So that no one would know where he was, Chris burned some of his money, gave some to charity, and left his car. He then disappeared into the woods.
Chris had many encounters on his journey to Alaska. He met lots of people that left a big impact on his life. He kept a journal with him and a camera to record his experiences. He also carried with him a ten-pound bag of rice and a rifle and shells. He went by the name of Alexander Supertramp and stayed in an old, abandoned bus where hunters often stayed.
Chris left a note on the bus door begging for help, but no one found it until he was already dead. Chris died at the age of twenty-four because he had eaten a deadly seed, even though he bought a book about edible plants. A group of moose hunters found his body. . He was not equipped to spend that much time alone in the wild, but he seemed to find what he was looking for all along. (253 words)
