This book is about a girl named Desi Mitchell. Her parents are very rich and give her anything she desires, but they ignore her because they work long hours.
Desi and her best friend Corrine work at a childcare clinic together. This is where Desi gets attached to an eight-month-old baby named Alicia, who is HIV positive. Alicia was born to a sick, teen mother who gave her away at birth. Desi feels like she can relate to Alicia. Desi does not want to leave baby Alicia's side when she gets really sick.
