LSTA grant automates school library
Funded by Institute of Museum and Library Services
In October 2004, USD 456 was awarded a grant in the amount of $6,000 to purchase a library server, a barcode scanner, and cataloging software. The grant funds were federal monies from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), which administers the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA)
The purpose of automating the school library system was to accomplish the following goals:
* provide a linkage of resources between the Quenemo and Melvern school libraries.
* generate reports pertaining to library activity or bibliographies for research
* analyze the age and weakness of the libraries' collections
* more efficiently manage the check-in and check-out procedures of materials
* facilitate inventory control and cost-effective acquisition of new materials
* improve student achievement through the use of technology in all grades
* support teachers in locating materials that help them teach state content standards.
