One-handed catch by MJ Auch

The cover looks like a baseball story and the title sounds like a baseball story, but this novel is much more. It is a story that exemplifies those little bits of advice that you heard growing up, such as "Where there is a will, there is a way." or "Never say I can't or "Failure is not an option."
The story itself is actually based on a disabling accident that happened to the author's husband, but most of the characters in the story are fictitious. In addition, the setting is shortly after World War II, which gives the reader a glimpse or feel for some of the lack of conveniences encumbered by citizens of the United States. A book of similar theme and plot is Wintering Well, a 2006-2007 William Allen White nominee, by Lea Wait.
