Listen! by Stephanie Tolan

2008-2009 WAW Award Nominee for Grades 6-8

August 18, 2008

Plot: If you like dogs, or animals in general, you will like this book. Listen! is a book about patience - the patience it takes to win an animal's trust. One summer 12-year-old Charley sees a dog - a dog that apparently has no owner or master, or perhaps, it has been abandoned in a wooded lake area. The animal is suspicious and elusive of humans, but once the dog's and Charley's eyes meet, she decides to tame the "wildness" in him.

Although some characters are fictional, the main story is based on the author's discovery of a dog and actions she took to "tame" him. For more information, read the author's notes on her website below.

Characters: Charley, Sarita, Colleen Morgan, Coyote, Sadie, Paul Morgan

Setting: Eagle Lake, North Carolina
