Adam Canfield of the Slash by Michael Winerip
2007-2008 WAW Award Nominee
September 10, 2007
Middle school reporters follow their nose for news, which leads
them to publish some enlightening, and at times, controversial news
stories. Readers may also sense a get-there-first competition
between the local television news media and the school newspaper. A
major conflict arises when the school principal dictates what facts
can or cannot be printed. This becomes an internal struggle for
co-editors Jennifer and Adam, to defend the principles of truth and
freedom of the press.
The author
Michael Winerip, is a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter for the
New York Times. This is his first book for young readers.
