Scholastic Book Fair Success
May 04, 2010
The elementary students at Marais des Cygnes Valley raised more than $150 in donations during a “Penny War” and “Loose Change” held the week of April 26-30th.
The money was collected for the school through the One for Books® program created by Scholastic Book Fairs. The donations, mostly in the form of pennies from students, were used to purchase books for the classroom libraries and the school library.
Ms. Wollenberg challenged the classes to bring in pennies. Mrs. Criqui’s class donated $46.70 and Mrs. Kitselman’s class donated $ 35.10. All of the students were entertained in a special assembly where Mrs. Criqui, teacher of the winning classroom, threw a pie in Ms. Wollenberg’s face.
Scholastic Book Fairs will match the One for Books contributions with a donation of books to three non-profit organizations that help families in need: Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc., the National Center for Family Literacy, and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Each year Scholastic donates up to one million books through the program.
Thank you to all who participated and helped with the reading program.
