2008 FFA Chapter BanquetThe annual Marais des Cygnes
Valley FFA Chapter Banquet was held 6:30 p.m. April 16. Dennis
Becker began the evening with an invocation, followed by a pot luck
dinner, opening ceremony, and welcome by Adam Phelon. The keynote
speaker for the evening was State FFA President Bethany Bohneblust.
Afterwards, there was a slide show by Jamie Fine, presentation of
awards, and induction of new officers.
Award recipients included the following
2007-2008 Greenhands: Kenny Berry, Becca Bush, Jeff
Engelken, Josh Flewelling, Samantha Hays, Jessi Mullin, Emily
Phelon, Mirannda Saffer, Jaime Spencer, Vanae Wagner and Skyler
Wainwright.

representative.
The MdCV FFA expresses a special "thank you" to the following
businesses for providing door prizes at the chapter banquet: Kramer
Photo, the Melvern Branch of the Lyndon State Bank, Whistle Stop,
Legends, Sloop Sales and Hook Repair, Jones Service Station,
Melvern Co-op, and Robert Litch of Pioneer Seed.
Additional FFA events
On Friday, April 18, the FFA, FCCLA and FBLA organizations joined
together to take a recreational trip to the Burlington Rec Center.
More than 50 members and their sponsors participated in the
activity.
On Wednesday, April 23, FFA members attended the East Central District Livestock and Food Science Career Development Event at Paola. The MdCV FFA Food Science and Technology team earned sixth place out of 19 teams and nearly 200 contestants. Overall, Brandon Litch took ninth place. Other members who competed were Michael Schmidt, Myra Boeckenstedt, Vicki Coffey, Chad Forrer, Jamie Rice, Emily Rose, and D.L. Also assisting with the contest were Dennis Becker, Adam Phelon, Cheyenne Russell, Jessica Schmidt, Sheena Buskirk, Chisom Spencer, Michael Spillman, Jack Lichtenauer, Brandon Larsen, and Michael McGrew.
Freshmen FFA members also competed in the Livestock Judging contest B-Team Division, where the team finished fourth out of 15 teams and nearly 75 contestants. Dylan Reece and Skyler Wainwright finished ninth and tenth respectively in the contest. Other members who competed were Emily Phelon, Mirannda Saffer, Jeff Engelken, and Kenny Berry.
On May 5 and 6, nine FFA members also attended the State FFA Career Development Event in Manhattan. They were Adam Phelon, Dennis Becker, Alan Billen, Brandon Litch, Michael Schmidt, Pat Rager, Chad Forrer, Jamie Fine, and Myra Boeckenstedt.
