The setting takes place in an old abandoned village surrounded
by mountains, where most of the village houses are broken down. It
is present time.
The characters are Mo, who is the dad of Maggie and husband of
Teresa. Teresa is called Resa by Capricorn, Basta, and Dustfinger,
who were read out of a book by Mo or Mortemer.
Mo is nicknamed Silvertongue because they think he is a witch. And
all Capricorn's henchmen wear black-clad suits that make them look
like crows. Elenor is the old lady who is a book collector. All her
books were burned by Capricorn's men. There is also Finor who got
read out of the book by Mo, when Mo was trying to read out the gold
for Capricorn. Finor always follows Dustfinger as well as Gwin (the
pet martin with horns), who also follows Dustfinger. Mortle, whose
nickname is Magpie, is Capricorn's evil mother who hides the book
Inkheart in a drawer with snakes. Darius can read people out of
books, but not as well as Mo and Maggie.This is why Flat Nose's
face is squished. Basta hates Dustfinger, who is extremely
superstitious and hates fire.
Dustfinger is a fire eater. Elenor does not like Dustfinger at
first, because Elenor thinks she will change the books to dust. Mo
is a book restorer. Maggie, the daughter of Mo and Teresa, reads
Tinkerbell and the Tiny Tin Man from the book. The Shadow is the
monster Capricorn created in his book out all the ashes of the
creatures he burned. The monster turns on Capricorn by killing him
and his men as Maggie reads the alternate page by the author of
Inkheart in the story.
In the beginning -- a flashback. Mo is reading to Teresa and she
disappears in the story with two cats. In order for something to
come out of the book, someone or something has to take its place.
At this time, Capricorn, Dustfinger, and Basta are read out and
come out of the book. Mo tries to read them back in, but he does
not know how. So he chases them out with Capricorn's sword.
The evil Capricorn kidnaps Mo, Maggie, and Elenor -- after they
read out Finor. Dustfinger saved them because Capricorn betrayed
him and burned all copies of Inkheart so he could not get read back
into the book. They went to see the author of Inkheart to see if
the author could write an alternate to the book, in order to get
Teresa back. But Teresa was already read out by Darius She is
mute because Darius reads out improperly. So he catches all, except
Mo and Finor. He intends on feeding Dustfinger, Basta, Resa, and
Elenor to the Shadow. But Dustfinger got away. This is why Bata is
in there. (466 words)
