County Government Day
Osage County Courthouse
April 16, 2008
The Osage County Council of the American Legion invited social science students to participate in "County Government Day," on April 16, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Osage County Courthouse in Lyndon.
The program was designed so that each high school in the county could elect various students to serve as a county officer on that day, under the guidance and direction of a real county officer, and to have the opportunity to observe the duties of that office.
Representing Marais des Cygnes Valley High School in county government roles were Myra Boeckenstedt as County Clerk; Victoria Coffey, County Attorney; Alan Billen, Register of Deeds; Michael Schmidt, County Sheriff; Brandon Litch, County Treasurer; LaShae Taylor, County Commissioner; and Katie Reece, County Commissioner.
The schedule for the day was as follows:
9 a.m. Assemble in the district courtroom, third floor, for
introductions of department heads and short presentations from
each
10 a.m. Oaths of office administered
10:15 a.m Students visit county office to which elected
11:45 a.m. Assemble for lunch on ground floor
12 p.m. Lunch at the American Legion Hall, courtesy of the Osage
County Council and the American Legion
1 p.m. Mock Trail by the Osage County Bar Association and legal
secretaries
At 2:15 p.m., there was a presentation of "Certificates of
Election" and "Oaths of Office," signed with a notary stamp, to
those students who participated in the program.
At 2:30 p.m. the proceedings ended in adjournment
