MDCV School Board meeting
January 15, 2008
The Board of Education of Unified School District 456 met in regular session, Wednesday December 12, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. with the following board members in attendance: Brian Lacey (arriving at 7:38 pm), Greg McCurdy, Raylen Phelon, Marilyn Rose, Karla Saffle, and Kathy Zabel. Others in attendance were Superintendent Ted Vannocker, Principal Steve Burkdoll, and Board Clerk Angie Volkman.
The board approved the agenda, the minutes of the November 12, 2007 board meeting, the financial reports and bills as presented.
Board members Kathy Zabel and Brian Lacey volunteered to serve as the board's negotiating team for this year's negotiations with the MdCV Teacher's Association.
Superintendent Vannocker reported to the board on weather related issues. He presented handouts that he uses to track the weather.
Board members Kathy Zabel and Marilyn Rose, along with Superintendent Vannocker, will be attending the Legislative dinner scheduled for January 9, 2008 in Paola, Kansas.
Principal Burkdoll reported architect Dave Emig was at the school on November 27th to bid on lockers for the Jr. High school. Greenbush will be here on December 14th for teacher training on integrating technology in the classroom.
A written report from Principal Wollenberg stated 100% of the elementary students met their reading goals for November. There will be a celebration on December 14 to award their success in reading. The turn out for the Elementary Winter Music Program was fantastic. There wasn't an empty seat to be had in the gym. Principal Wollenberg is working on a schedule with Mrs. Creekmore and Mrs. Warner to split the first grade class, with Mrs. Meyer still coming in three days a week to help out. Letters will be sent home to parents explaining the changes before the Christmas Break.

Parent Meeting: Dec. 14th @ 4:45 p.m. This is for information on post-graduation options for students.
Jr. High & High School music program: Dec. 17th @ 7:00 p.m.
High School finals: Dec. 17th thru 20th
Winter Break: Dec. 21st through Jan. 1st. Classes will resume on Jan. 2nd.
Board member Kathy Zabel had questions about portion sizes at the high school lunch room. Principal Burkdoll reports he is in the lunchroom daily and has not observed any issues with portions.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for January 14th, 2007 at 7:30p.m.
