Music fills the air
Jr.-Sr. High School concert
December 22, 2007
MdCV Junior-Senior High School Music Department presented a concert at 7 p.m. Monday, December 17, in the school gymnasium. The program began with the Melvern Pre-School children singing three songs: "Melting Snowmen," "At Christmas Time," and the "Itsy-Bitsy Snowflake."
Following the Pre-School, the High School Band played three songs: "The Polar Express," "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" and "The Night Before Christmas." For this last presentation, elementary teacher Peggy Burkdoll re-familiarized the audience with the magic of this traditional children's classic, as she narrated the story "The Night Before Christmas" during pauses in the music.
The Junior High Band played four holiday songs: "Jingle Bells," "My Dreydl," "Up On the Housetop," and "Jolly Old St. Nicholas."
The High School Choir sang three songs: "Music Alone Shall Live," "I Dream a World," and "Bonse Aba." This last selection was a traditional Zambian song that the group learned for a Lyon County League music performance. The group rocked and swayed to the rhythm of the music, as they demonstrated a particular affinity for the lively tune of the lyrics.
The concert concluded with the combined Junior-Senior High choirs singing an arrangement titled "Carols Four."
Directing both the vocal and instrumental groups for the evening's event was Jessica Snider, the K-12 music teacher for Marais des Cygnes Valley Schools.
