On October 23, 2007, members of the Marais des Cygnes Valley FFA
headed off to Indianapolis, Indiana, for the 80th annual National
FFA Convention. "Blue Jackets and Bright Futures" was the theme for
this year's convention.
The MdCV FFA members as well as the over 55,000 other FFA members
and guests from every state in the nation including Puerto Rico
were in attendance to take part in the largest youth gathering in
the world. The National FFA membership total also surpassed its
highest total of members since 1978 with over 500,000 members in
the organization.
Members attending the convention were Adam Phelon, Jessica
Schmidt, Jamie Fine, Myra Boeckenstedt, Vicki Coffey, Tavishia
Wormell, Jamie Rice, D.L. and Emily Rose, along with FFA
Advisor Danny Rice and sponsor Terry Rice. The members stopped
along the way, visiting the St. Louis Arch and Museum as well as
the river front in Missouri.
After arriving in Indianapolis, members attended convention
sessions including listening to the incredible keynote speaker Rick
Rigsby, the amazing FFA Career Show, watched in concert
Montgomery/Gentry in the RCA Dome, and toured the National FFA
Center. Members not only took advantage of the opportunity to build
Leadership and Career Development skills, but to see at first hand
the impact the FFA and Agriculture and how it plays an integral
part in the lives of everyone in the world with the complete
package of not only the production of food but the processing,
marketing and development of our Food and Fiber Industry and the
Leaders of our Future.
The Marais des Cygnes Valley FFA would like to thank the USD 456 for allowing us the opportunity to attend the convention and develop career building skills for our students.
On Saturday, October 27 the Marais des Cygnes Valley FFA Chapter
also hosted its annual Haunted House during the Melvern Fall
Festival with nearly 175 community members attending the scary and
haunted barn. Over 25 FFA members decorated and participated in the
haunting and scaring that provided another successful year at the
Haunted House.
After the screaming and scaring, the members celebrated by enjoying
pizza and a movie in the agriculture classroom. The MdCV FFA
Chapter would like to say thank you to the Melvern Pride for
supplying the hayrack ride to the haunted house, Isabel Phelon for
providing the barn, Diane Rager for assisting us in the decorating
and Dennis Becker and Brandon Litch for some extra organizing of
the haunted house.
