KSHSAA announces school classifications

According to the Kansas State High School Activities
Association, Marais des Cygnes Valley's classification as a 1A
school will remain unchanged for 2007-2008. Schools in the Lyon
County League that did change classification included Lebo, who
moved up from 1A to 2A, and Hartford, who moved down from 2A
to 1A.
For 2007-2008, there are 361 schools with a senior high membership
in the KSHSAA. Of that total, 104 schools have a classification of
1A, posting an enrollment in Grades 9-11 between 14 and 81, as of
September 20, 2007.
With an enrollment of 74 in Grades 9-11, MdCV will also remain in
the 8-Man Division I category of football for the school years
2008-2009 and 2009-2010. Division I schools have an enrollment of
63-96, while Division II schools have an enrollment figure between
27 and 63. Forty-nine schools are listed under Division I, and 48
are listed under Division II.
Two area schools changed football classification. With an
enrollment of 77, Southern Coffey County moved from Division II to
Division I, and Waverly changed from Division I to Division II,
with an enrollment of 51.
For the 2008 and 2009 football seasons, Marais des Cygnes Valley is
assigned to District I, joining the company of Baileyville B&
B, Burlingame, Elwood, Frankfort, and Wakefield. All together,
there are eight districts within Divisions I and II, with
approximately six schools assigned to each district.
