Sacrifice by Kathleen Benner Duble
2007-08 WAW Award nominee (Grades 6-8)
September 10, 2007
Father has a mental condition that strikes every once in a while -- usually when he is under some sort of stress -- and he has had it for quite some time. Almost everybody in the community knows about his illness. However, when talk of witches and witchcraft hit nearby Salem, Massachusetts, the Faulkner family worries that Father's condition may bring unwelcomed attention and accusations to the family.
The story is based on the author's own family research, and the fact that they were actually involved in the witch trials. The Sacrifice has been voted a "Top Ten Historical Fiction for Youth" by Booklist and a "Worthy of Note" Book by Jefferson Cup.
