I am so excited for this year to begin! Forensics should be a
lot of fun this year. We have a well established team, and the new
members will begin learning the tricks of the trade in class. Our
class is beginning the year with a series of plays, and
mid-semester we will begin practicing rhetoric skills. We are also
looking forward to producing and performing a small one-act play
sometime in the Spring.
Student council members are already hard at work! We are planning
for the Back-to-School Dance this week, but Homecoming is right
around the corner!
NHS members will soon begin working on a service project to meet
the needs of both school and community. We have a lot of good
ideas, and we are excited about putting them into action.
A new Scholar's Bowl team will begin competitive competition in
October, and I can only hope that we might be as successful this
year as Mrs. Beatty's team was in the past.
In the counselor's office, I am hard at work gathering testing
information and scholarship opportunities. Juniors, don't forget
that you need to begin planning for the ACT! Seniors, there are
already five scheduled college visits for the month of September.
Whether you are planning on attending a technical college, a
community college, or a four year University, the application
process must begin IMMEDIATELY! Anyone who feels that they need
career planning help may stop in to the office and schedule a
planning session. Regarding scholarships, don't forget that the
application deadline for most universities is November 1.
I will include on the website a link to a schedule regarding ACT
testing dates. DO NOT MISS THE REGISTRATION DEADLINES!!! Remember,
the ACT is the most important college entrance test for those
schools located in the Mid-West. If you want to take the SAT, see
me. Most people will never need an SAT score.
I am currently developing a guidance curriculum for the Junior
High. Beginning on Wednesday, August 29, I will meet weekly with
each class to discuss character education issues. I will also teach
a unit on bullying. I hope to have another Lock-In this year --
last year was a great success.
Overall, we have a very exciting year planned. I think students will find many opportunities to become involved in positive ways in their school and community. High school students need to remember the Lend-A-Hand program as they encounter opportunities to volunteer within their churches, school, and communities. All of these hours should be recorded and turned into me. You may pick up forms in the Counselor's Office. We have some of the most helpful and wonderful students on the face of the planet, and I am so proud of all of the work that you and your families put into this community! GO TROJANS!
