LCL Scholarship Tests

February 14, 2007

The dictionary has several definitions for the word scholarship. The most common association is the monetary grant awarded for pursuit of post-secondary education. The other, perhaps less used definition, refers to the scholarly qualities or scholastic attainments of a student. In other words, how much does one know about a subject. This latter definition is what the Lyon County League Scholarship Tests are all about.

Thirty-two students from Marais des Cygnes Valley High School participated in the LCL High School Scholarship Tests on the campus of Emporia State University. The event which was originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 14, was moved up a week to February 7.

Students compete against other schools in the league to earn recognition in the content area and to collectively earn points for their school ranking within the league and Class 1A. The other league schools include Lyndon, Chase County, Burlingame, Olpe, Waverly, Madison, Hartford, Flinthills, and Lebo. Results of the tests are usually announced in the latter part of April
