The junior high band and choir students enjoyed a wonderful day at the Topeka Symphony. We were fortunate enough to be able to attend a free school day concert in January, Cartoon Classics II. This was our second straight year attending the concert. The students dressed up for the occasion and looked very nice.
Once at the Topeka Performing Arts Center we were escorted to our seats. Members of the orchestra walked around the hall to introduce their instrument to the students. A few of our students were even able to talk with the conductor, Dr. John Strickler. The above picture is of me and Dr. Strickler following the concert.
The rest of the day included lunch at Cici’s Pizza and a stop at the Topeka Mall. The students had a wonderful time and enjoyed listening to professional musicians. It was a good opportunity to see another aspect of a career in music. Many of the students are looking forward to attending the concert again next year.
